A special scholarship in the amount of $1500 was established in 2008 in memory of Virginia Skeen Clark, a Special Education teacher in the Tyler Independent School District.
Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage working single mothers to pursue an undergraduate college degree.
Application: The application is to be completely filled in and accompanied by an up-to-date transcript.
Grant: The maximum grant for the Clark Scholarship will be $1,500, $750 per semester for one year with the possibility of reapplying annually. The recipient may use this grant for tuition, books, and fees.
General: All applicants must be working full time, have a GED / high school diploma, or completed some college course work. All applicants must intend to carry out and show proof of at least 1 (one) three hour course per semester.
Specific: Payment will be made to the scholarship recipient's school of choice (Tyler Junior College or University of Texas at Tyler) only upon receipt of evidence of enrollment by the branch treasurer and will be made in two (2) installments, the first at the beginning of the fall semester and the second before the spring semester.
Deadline for application: The deadline for receipt of the application by the Tyler Branch Scholarship Committee for the current fiscal year is March 1st. The application may be e-mailed to the Scholarship Commitee or mailed to the following address:
1. List any community/church or service activities in which you have participated.
2. Work Experience: Give your supervisor's name and work phone. What are your duties and responsibilities? How many hours per week do you work? Describe the other types of positions you have had and what you have learned from them.
3. List the names and phone numbers of two (2) references and attach a letter of recommendation from your current employer.
