A special scholarship in the maximum amount of $1,000 was established in 1982 for a member of the Tyler Branch of AAUW studying at the graduate level. In 1986 the scholarship was named for Dr. Dorothy Scott, a former teacher of government and history in the Tyler Independent School District prior to moving to the administrative level as Director of Secondary Instruction.
Purpose: The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage those Tyler Branch members in good standing for at least three (3) years to complete advanced education, branch out into new fields, strive for additional degrees or certification, or to engage in any other form of education to enrich their lives.
Application: The application is to be completely filled in and accompanied by an up-to-date transcript.
Grant: The maximum grant for the Clark Scholarship will be $1,000, with the possibility of renewal if circumstances warrant. The recipient may use this grant for tuition, books and materials, travel expense, course-related childcare, and other necessary expenses.
General: All applicants must intend to carry out and show proof of a full academic load, or a comparable project, as sought in the application for which the scholarship is granted. All applicants must give full disclosure of all other financial aid applied for and/or received.
Specific: Depending on the nature of the grant proposal, the monies will be paid in an appropriate time frame. Upon completion of the activities listed in the grant proposal, a written report is to be presented to Tyler Branch by the recipient.
Deadline for application: The deadline for receipt of the application by the Tyler Branch Scholarship Committee for the current fiscal year is March 1st. The application may be e-mailed to the Scholarship Commitee or mailed to the following address:
1. Write a proposal for this grant, which will include a statement of the purpose, a description of the academic work required and how, upon completion, it will benefit you and promote positive societal change. Include why you should be selected to receive this scholarship.
2. What other organizations do you belong to and are active in? Please include the offices and responsibilities you have held in these organizations.
3. List any other community/church, or service activities in which you have participated.
4. Work Experience: Are you currently employed? Where? How long? Give your supervisor's name and work phone. What are your duties and responsibilities? How many hours per week do you work? Describe the other types of positions you have had and what you have learned from them.
5. List the names and phone numbers of two (2) references and submit (or mail) two (2) letters of recommendation.
